One of my favorite lines from the book: “You can’t make people stop loving each other just because a law says it’s wrong. There are plenty of mermen in the story too…after all, not only little girls dream of the sea. The Tail of Emily Windsnap is a fun adventure that I think both boys and girls would enjoy. But when Mom finally agrees to let her take swimming lessons, Emily makes a startling discovery about her own identity, the mysterious father she’s never. The Tail of Emily Windsnap, her first childrens book, grew out of a poem she wrote about a mermaid. And, oddly enough, for just as long, her mother has seemed anxious to keep Emily away from the water. Sure, there are the predictable good guys, bad guys, broken rules, and fun, quirky characters like Mystic Millie, the hypnotist/ reflexologist/ palm reader but that is something I expect from books at this reading level and feel the story would have been missing something without them. For as long as she can remember, twelve-year-old Emily Windsnap has lived on a boat. A girl named Emily finds out she is half mermaid at the beginning of the story when she swims for the first time and I think that it would be awesome to find out you were half mermaid. I can tell you a lot about the plot of this story. What’s more, the mystery surrounding how it’s possible that Emily lives on a houseboat but doesn’t find out that she is a mermaid until she is in seventh grade is quite intriguing. The setting of The Tail of Emily Windsnap is very creative and amazing. On the contrary, she finds herself balancing two worlds while she searches for answers. Yes, the magical mermaid world plays a role in this book, but Emily does not simply abandon all she knows to disappear into it. There was no receiving of magical powers on a certain birthday or being surprised and whisked away to a special school or magical world. And, oddly enough, for just as long, her. A glorious undersea world where mermaids study shipwrecks at school and Neptune rules with an iron trident - an enchanting fantasy about family secrets. While the story seemed less than original – a young girl finds out she is special/ magical (a mermaid) – the plot was very creative. For as long as she can remember, twelve-year-old Emily Windsnap has lived on a boat. Well, I’m 34 and found myself surprised as the story unfolded! My impressions going into the book were: it sounds cute but it will probably be predictable. What else is the book about Are you interested in reading the sequel Its also a childrens book. However, Ive only read the back of the book. Now that it is officially summer, I thought it was time to dive into a mermaid book, and I decided to finally read The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler. The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler 2.5 stars Jennie asked: From what I know, The Tail of Emily Windsnap is about being a mermaid.
